Privacy policy
தனியுரிமைக் கொள்கை
Karu AI (the website karuai.com and the Android app) helps Tamil-speaking children and students learn to read, write and pronounce Hindi. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. Last updated: 3 October 2026.
The short version for parents
- ✓We collect only what lessons need: a sign-in email, a first name, learning goal and progress.
- ✓Voice recordings and notebook photos are checked and then not kept by us.
- ✓No ads. We never sell or rent anyone's information.
- ✓No chat with strangers and no photos of children.
- ✓You can delete the account and all its data any time, inside the app.
1. Information we collect
- Account: the email address used to sign in (and the name your Google account shares, if you sign in with Google).
- Learner profile: a first name or nickname, the learning goal (school, DBHPS, college or work), an optional school, college or workplace name, and the chosen emoji avatar.
- Learning progress: answers, scores, stars, XP, streaks, badges, daily challenge results, and invite codes and referral rewards.
- Voice recordings: when the learner taps the microphone, the short recording is sent to a speech-checking service to judge the pronunciation. We do not keep the recording after the check.
- Notebook photos: in the optional notebook test, the photo of the notebook page is sent to an AI service to read and mark it. We do not keep the photo.
- On the device only: settings such as light/dark theme and sound, and some reading progress, are kept in the app's storage on the phone.
We do not collect location, contacts or other apps' data, and we do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
2. How we use it
- To run the lessons, check pronunciation and writing, and show progress.
- To give rewards such as XP, badges, streak freezes and invite rewards.
- To answer support requests and keep the service safe and working.
We do not use children's information for advertising or behavioural profiling.
3. Who we share it with
Only with trusted service providers that run the app for us — cloud hosting and database, sign-in, speech checking and AI services — and only for that purpose, under their privacy and security terms. We may share information if the law requires it. We never sell information.
4. Children
Karu AI is made for children and students. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, a person under 18 is a child: a parent or guardian should create the account or give permission, and can supervise its use. Parents and guardians can ask us to see, correct or delete their child's information at any time.
When a learner invites a friend, the message they choose to send contains their first name and invite link. No other learner can see a child's details.
5. How long we keep it
We keep the account information while the account exists. When the account is deleted, its profile and progress are deleted straight away; copies in backups are removed within 30 days.
6. Your choices and rights
- Edit the name, goal and school in Profile → Settings.
- Delete the account and all its data in Profile → Settings → Delete my account, or see how to delete an account.
- Ask us for a copy of the information, or to correct it, by email.
7. Security
Information travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and each account can only read its own data. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your sign-in safe.
8. Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell users in the app about important changes. For questions, requests or complaints (grievances), write to Karu AI at namastheyhindia@gmail.com.
